The Problem: -
The lined pond had not been cleaned out for many years and over that time had accumulated volumes of leaves fallen from mature surrounding trees. The pond water quality was nutrient rich and generally in poor condition.
Solution: -
The pond was pumped out and new marginal banks were created using coir rolls pre-planted with established native marginal aquatic plants. Once fixed in place these rolls were then used as retaining walls to hold the huge volume of leaves and silt physically removed from the pond bottom.
The pond was then re-filled with water to its normal level. The plants within the coir rolls will establish well providing an excellent show of colour each year and their root systems will help filter the water by direct uptake of solute nutrients. The pond is now maintained twice per year by Burley Aquatic Developments.
