“Oxlease Enhancement”
One of the marginal edges of Oxlease Lake used to be an access track used by the heavy vehicles back when the gravel pits were still being worked. When the lake was allowed to flood the water level come up over the margin however the marginal substrate was so compacted over time that very little was able to grow. Some of the swims previously built out into the lake were also showing serious signs of wear.
A large excavator was brought in to assist with the swim repairs and to also turn over all the marginal edge spoil in an effort to loosen the substrate and allow for successful aquatic planting. This was all achieved however the plant establishment took longer than usual due to the marginal soil being re-compacted by continual wave action.
