Sussex pond enhancement: -

This clients garden pond was the main feature of the garden as you looked from the rear of the house.  Over some years the pond had begun to deteriorate aesthetically so the client wanted some ideas for enhancement.

The pond was drained of water and the fish held in purpose built fish boxes whilst the pond was cleaned of silt and debris and re-filled.  The old home made filter box was removed and disposed of opting for a vegetable filter instead.  The bricked area at the rear of the pool was dug out and sealed to retain water.  A few bricks were removed from the front of the structure adjoining the pond and two of the facing slabs sealed back in at a lower level.  We then installed an in-line UV system and pipe work from the pond pump to the rear of the brick structure.  The structure then had a wire grill installed upon which we laid and secured coir matting, the matting was then plated with suitable marginal aquatic plants which would aesthetically enhance and also act as water filters drawing nutrients directly from the water column.  Pond water is now fed directly to the rear of the veggie filter via a UV, the water then fills the brick structure passes through the plant roots and falls back into the pond via the two new falls.
