Cemex Angling is the largest commercial coarse fishing company in the UK and we were delighted when they selected Burley Aquatic Developments as the main contractor to design and ensure the 100 acre ex-quarry site was re-designed then re-worked and made suitable for safe and enjoyable angling whilst at the same time enhancing the site with aquatic planting.
Nine native marginal aquatic plant species were specially selected for the site to complement what had already self seeded and established. Over 5,000 plants were individually planted by hand early spring 2009 amounting to nearly 1.4km of margin.
These plants were then protected with wire to eliminate water fowl attention then over 700 wave booms were installed in front to ensure the root ball was not disturbed during establishment.
A huge amount of landscaping took place at the site involving 120 tonnes of machinery and equipment along with nearly 100 angling swims being installed around four gravel pits and then a vehicle access track with three connecting car parks was built to take 100 vehicles. Finally the whole site was prepared and seeded with a mix of grass and wild flower seed.
The Cemex Alresford site is a stunning location and now that all the main works are completed the site will mature in time ensuring superb and comfortable angling at a location with a huge diversity of wildlife.
